The young learners of today have been surrounded by technology since the day they were born. iPods and iPads are something they are able to navigate quicker than they can write their ABCs. They are the definition of "digital natives". For teachers this means that we need to change the way we teach the learners of today by speaking their technological language. In the Early Childhood Center, we have been given the chance to use both iPads and iPods to support every day learning. In K3, students use both devices to create eBooks. Apps have become a way to differentiate learning in a fun and easy way. Students are able to guide their own learning from harder to easier tasks at the touch of a screen.
On the iPod students create their own listening centers from stories they have created themselves. This is a way for them to share their creativity with their classmates. Teachers in the ECC work with students to create digital stories through iMovie and the use of pictures. This increases both the level of interest from the students as well as understanding of concepts at a deeper level.
With technology and young learners, the possibilities are endless!
