Seth Godin has an interesting blog post today, Who is your customer?
My customer has always been the student. Whatever project I'm working on, my efforts are always towards enhancing student learning, whether inside or outside the classroom. All the professional development opportunities I remind the faculty of are ultimately with the impact on the student in mind. It's the best common ground for discussion among faculty, administrators, parents and students.
As we move towards personalized learning in a wireless access environment, the student voice needs to be more and more a part of the conversation. I can remember having conversations over forty years ago at undergraduate school regarding the need for student voice, my own included, in questioning curriculum. As we begin to formulate our own personal learning networks online, we are preparing to guide students in the formulation of their own personal learning networks. Exciting times.
If I were to suggest a statue, representative of my customers, it would be a group of students and a teacher, working collaboratively, with all of the available mobile devices at their disposal.
